What the VIN check shows

The free preview shows the vehicle, recalls for the model, salvage-auction sales, damage records and photo count before you pay anything.

The full report adds title history and title brands, odometer readings, accident and damage records, sale history and auction photos, plus ClearVin's official NMVTIS report, exactly as ClearVin issues it. Sections appear when records exist for the VIN.

Where to find the VIN

The 17-character VIN is on the dashboard (visible through the windshield), on the driver's door jamb, and on the registration, insurance card and title.

Buying from a private seller? Compare the VIN on the title with the VIN on the dashboard (visible through the windshield) and on the driver's door jamb sticker. All three must match.

Frequently asked questions

Is the VIN check free?
Free preview first. Full report $19.99 one-time.
What's the difference between VIN decoding and a VIN check?
Decoding reads the VIN itself: year, make, model, engine and plant. A VIN check looks up the records filed against that VIN: title brands, odometer readings, damage, sales and recalls for the model.
Can I get a refund if the report is empty?
Yes. If we can't provide any meaningful history data for your VIN, you get a full refund: email support@vincheck.it.com within 30 days. Unused reports are refunded too (bundles at the per-report rate you paid).
